After all day targeting bluefish in the bay-- tell me why we drove inland 45 min to catch this little stinker in FULL FRESH WATER..
Like I know they like estuaries but this was a 45 minute DRIVE upstream. HOW?!? I'm not complaining because he ended up being a lifer but like I'm impressed and concerned? How is he living and is he doing okay? This river was not even close to being brackish.. idk I'm honestly worried that my ID is just wrong so write in the comments if you have a different opinion about my Raritan Bluefish👇👇
bluefish can get up to 31lbs so this little guy is probably just starting out his life. He will need to find his way back to the ocean to reproduce because he was the only one that was caught in the pool upstream.
""They exhibit feeding behavior called the “bluefish blitz,” where large schools of big fish attack bait fish near the surface, churning the water like a washing machine. They feed voraciously on their prey, eating almost anything they can catch and swallow.
Bluefish have razor-sharp teeth and shearing jaws that allow them to ingest large parts, increasing the maximum size of the prey they can eat.""
At least he doesn't have any known predators in this river. Idk maybe we will find out that bass actually prefer this bluefish delicacy. I want to go back and try to find him again in a couple weeks and see if he's grown.

Bluefish??? In the Raritan?????? Best river ever???!!!!!!
